The MAS-ESS Essay Competition 2020 was launched in February 2020 and ended on 15 June 2020. The aim is to encourage debate on issues related to sustainability and climate change. The essays should be well researched and informed and should provide new analyses and perspectives as far as possible. They should also be written in such a way that they are accessible to a wide audience. They are therefore not meant to be academic ‘journal-style’ papers. The essays must be original in content. This essay competition is open to all Singaporean pre-university students regardless of nationality as well as Singaporean students studying in pre-universities abroad.
The competition invited submissions from Polytechnics, Centralized Institutes, International School and Junior Colleges as well as full time national servicemen who have completed their pre-university education. First prize is $3,000, second prize is $2,000 and the third prize is $1000.
